The CSV stands for "comma separated value" and it is a common file format used by most applications, databases, and other software to interpret data tables. Files saved in this format will end in '.csv'.
A .csv file can easily be edited by Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet software. In the text file each record exists on its own row, with each field being separated by a comma. For example, this is what a .csv file looks like as text:
